Eni finds second oil field in block 10 offshore Mexico;

Eni has discovered oil with its second commitment well in block 10 offshore Mexico.

The Sayulita-1 EXP well, drilled by the semisubmersible Valaris 8505 in 325 m (1,066 ft) of water, found oil in Upper Miocene sequences. Early analysis suggests in-place resources of 150-200 MMboe.

Sayulita is in the Cuenca Salina Sureste basin, 15 km (9.3 mi) from Eni’s previous  Saasiken oil discovery  which will undergo appraisal drilling toward year-end.

The well encountered 55 m (180 ft) net pay of good-quality oil, and reservoirs with sound petrophysical properties. Data acquired during drilling suggests a potential production capacity for the well of up to 3,000 b/d.

Eni added that there are various other prospects located nearby that could be clustered to form a synergic development.

Other partners in block 10 are Lukoil and Cairn Energy subsidiary Capricorn.
